‘Piggy’ Is A Nasty Tale About Bullying And Bloody Revenge

Piggy

Growing up ain’t easy, especially if you don’t look the way the world says you should. Carlota Pereda knows that, and translated it into one nasty horror movie, Piggy. It’s the tale of a young, tormented girl getting a rather twisted form of revenge against her school bullies. Who doesn’t love a good fucked up coming-of-age tale?

Get a sneak peek of Piggy below:

Sara carries an extra load of teenage agony due to the perpetual bullying from her peers. She’s also an outsider at home. Her parents and little brother just don’t understand her. So, she’s often found buried in her headphones, drowning out her surroundings. One day, Sara’s usual solo dip at the local pool is disrupted by the presence of a mysterious stranger in the water and an exceptionally grueling bout of abuse at the hands of three girls. But, in a strange twist of fate, Sara witnesses her tormentors being kidnapped in the back of the stranger’s van.

Sara must decide whether to cooperate with the police and parents’ questioning about the kidnappings, or take her own, unbridled path. She also discovers the power of desire and belonging, and the distinction between revenge and redemption.

Pereda wrote and directed the film based off her short, Cerdita. Laura Galán stars in Piggy as Sara.

Piggy premieres at Sundance Film Festival on January 24.
