R.I.P. Robert Hall: BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER/PARANORMAL ACTIVITY Special Effects Makeup Artist Has Passed Away at 47

All of us here at Dread Central are shocked and saddened to learn about the passing of lauded special effects and makeup artist Robert Green Hall. Word hit Facebook last night that the talented and sought-after artist has died at the age of 47.

Hall began his career in the 1990s on the sets of Night of the Scarecrow, The Island of Dr. Moreau, Wishmaster, and The X-Files (to name a few). He founded PostHuman FX in 1996 and would go on to use his talents in films like Vacancy, Prom Night, Quarantine and Quarantine 2: Terminal, The Crazies, Laid to Rest, and Paranormal Activity 2, 3, and 4. In television, he worked on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly. His filmography is truly extensive.

Dread Central co-founder Jon Condit is especially fond of Lightning Bug, released in 2004. Hall didn’t just perform special effects duties, he wrote and directed the film. It’s something of an autobiography about a horror lover and budding FX artist growing up in a small town.

Synopsis:
A drama/thriller, set in the South, about a young boy who longs to escape the misery of his childhood and the misunderstanding of his hometown. A gifted, self-taught, special effects make-up artist, Green dreams of going to Hollywood to make his own monsters. But the real demons of Green’s life threaten to hold him back: a drunken stepfather who terrorizes his mother, a group of religious fanatics who want to destroy his work, and the love of a girl who can’t let go of small town life.

Hall’s personal assistant Shaun Blayer confermed his passing in a Facebook post that reads, in part:

“I am Robert Hall’s Personal Assistant. I just heard my best friend, my brother from another mother PASSED AWAY today at 1 pm. Not only was he a friend but the best damn boss. I helped him when he was down. He helped me so much when I was down. He’d ALWAYS make special visits to me. Always checked on me. He was such an amazing guy I am honored to have him as a boss. He picked me up and bought me business cards anything I needed. He ALWAYS ALWAYS made sure I been ok and always checked on me. That’s what a real friend is. I never cared how many films and tv shows he did. I cared about him as a person.”

All of us here at Dread Central extend our sincerest condolences to Robert Green Hall’s fans, friends, and family. He is a unique talent who will be sorely missed.
