Tom Cruise Planning First Movie Shot in Outer Space with Elon Musk

A movie that takes place in outer space isn’t necessarily scary, but actually shooting a movie in space sounds claustrophobic, suspenseful, and potentially terrifying. But that’s what Tom Cruise is planning, and he’s teamed up with Elon Musk’s Space X to make it happen. Deadline got the exclusive:

I’m hearing that Tom Cruise and Elon Musk’s Space X are working on a project with NASA that would be the first narrative feature film – an action adventure – to be shot in outer space. It’s not a Mission: Impossible film and no studio is in the mix at this stage but look for more news as I get it. But this is real, albeit in the early stages of liftoff.

While the logistics of filming a movie in space seem insurmountable, Cruise is famous for performing his own elaborate stunts, and Musk is known for pulling off the seemingly impossible (have you seen those rockets landing upright?). No word on plot details and no major studios are attached at this time, but we’ll be keeping our eyes on this project to see what develops. Stay tuned!
