James Gunn Thinks GREMLINS 2 Is Better Than GREMLINS

Over the weekend, Slither and Super writer-director James Gunn took to Twitter to name a whopping 36 sequels he thinks are better than the originals. It’s a killer list (see below).

But one of the entries that caught my eye the most was Gunn saying that director Joe Dante’s Gremlins 2: The New Batch is better than Dante’s original classic creature feature, Gremlins.

Not sure I 100% agree, but I do f*cking LOVE to watch Gremlins 2 whenever I get the chance. It has got to be one of the most FUN sequels of all-time, for sure! Just ask Key & Peele!

Other horror sequels Gunn thinks are better than the originals include Evil Dead 2, Hellboy II, Batman Returns, Blade II, Blade Runner 2049, Bride of Frankenstein, and Final Destination 2.

Rated PG-13, the sequel sports a 69% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: Gremlins 2 trades the spiky thrills of its predecessor for looney satire, yielding a succession of sporadically clever gags that add some flavor to a recycled plot.

It begins when the magical collectibles store that Gizmo calls home has just been destroyed, and the tiny monster finds his way into a newly erected skyscraper. Billy and his bride-to-be, Kate, who have previously dealt with Gremlins run amok, discover that Gizmo and an impish legion of reptilian pals are inhabiting the downtown building. The couple tries to stop the creatures from escaping into New York City, but this new batch of beasts might be uncontrollable.
