Exclusive Clip from DARK ENCOUNTER

Beware those strange lights in the dead of night, which Dread Central learned after checking out this exclusive clip to Dark Encounter, the new sci-fi thriller written and directed by Solis’ Carl Strathie. In the clip, family members Olivia, Billy and Noah (Laura Fraser, Sid Phoenix and Spike White) attempt to keep unknown forces (extraterrestrial or supernatural?) out of their home until they realize they are already inside. Unsure of their motive, they decide to make a run for it. Give it a spin at the top of the article!

Dark Encounter arrives on January 7, 2020, on VOD, Digital HD platforms, and DVD.

Synopsis:
A year after the mysterious disappearance of an 8-year-old girl, we meet her grieving family as they return home from her memorial service in their small town. Later that evening, strange lights appear in the nearby forest and the family is exposed to an inexplicably strange phenomenon that rattles them to the core. The origin of the lights appears to be visitors from another world that seemingly terrorize the family. What they don’t realize is that these “beings” will lead the family to the truth behind the little girl’s disturbing disappearance.

In regards to Dread’s exclusive clip, filmmaker Strathie gives us some more background:

“At this point in the film, our characters are at their wits’ end,” he says, “and are being forced to confront the unusual and mysterious threat head-on. The ambiguity of the threat is on purpose. We are trying to suggest that the beings are definitely not of this world, and that they could be multidimensional. We even play with the idea that they could be a form of energy; the unusual light that’s prominent in this scene acts more like a ‘conscious entity,’ interacting with objects, like the opening the basement door. Physics also acts strange around the light. Smoke seems to warp abnormally, and even gravity is affected in some cases, as we see with the elevating bullet casing towards the end of this clip. But the beings do take a physical form, when they see fit—which we get a very partial glimpse of at the top of the stairs in this scene—but we wanted to keep the capabilities, intentions and physicality of the beings a mystery, which we felt enhances the horror and threat: how do you fight what you don’t understand?

“It might be surprising to hear that, despite the fact this scene has a climatic quality to it, it isn’t actually anywhere near the final act of the film, but instead occurs just before the half-way point, approaching mid-way through. This is because this scene takes place just before a drastic turn in the story, something happens which switches gears and takes the narrative in an entirely new direction…”
