Todd to Direct Eerrie, PA

Tony Todd to cut his director's teeth in Eerie!Late last week Tony Todd, best known for his role in Candyman, visited my home town of Erie, Pennsylvania. During his trip Todd joined the Eerie Horror Film Festival at the Millcreek Mall to spend time with his fans and support the festival, but he had a deeper agenda for being in Erie. Before his appearance at the mall Mr. Todd had been meeting with local and state officials to discuss his plans to make a movie based on Erie, Pennsylvania.

During his stay in Erie last year while he was a guest at the EHFF, Todd became captivated with the city’s diversity and atmosphere. I had personally stood with him on the balcony of the Avalon Hotel and watched a nearby building being demolished. It was then that he had told me that someone should be filming the destruction for use in a film. I hadn’t thought much of it then, but Todd’s wheels were already turning in his head. He had mentioned to the EHFF President Greg Ropp that someone should make a movie in Erie, and like me Greg “took it with a grain of salt”.

Little did we know how serious he actually was. Todd returned home, his mind filled with ideas, and penned a screenplay entitled Eerrie, PA (sic). The film is going to be a character-driven drama and Todd wants to film it in the town that inspired it. Todd says that he has about half of the $5 million projected budget he needs for the film and has had proposals from other cities, such as Baton Rouge, who are interested enough in the film to offer additional funding for the project, but his endgame is to film as much as possible in Erie, PA itself.

Todd would be co-starring in the film as well as cutting his directorial teeth on the project. Having the inside track on the area I can tell you that having a movie filmed here would be a huge boost for our struggling community. Todd saw that when he was here and if he has his way Eerrie, PA will begin filming as soon as next Spring!

Keep it here for more updates as they come down to us!
