Image Nabs Undead
Well, this sure is good news for fans of zombie western comedies everywhere.
A few weeks back we did a story about how Glasgow Phillip’s Undead or Alive: A Zombedy might be left floating for a while (“Undead or Alive Dead?” – August 2007). Today Daily Variety got word that, in fact, the film is one of the first Image Entertainment has picked up the distribution rights for!
Image has plans to release Undead or Alive on DVD in December, apparently dropping the A Zomedy subtitle, though the original intention of the acquisition was to put it in theaters. Why they decided to bypass that all together likely had something to do with the fact that it’s a zombie western comedy with Chris Katan and the marketing alone would be a nightmare.
They did pick up a romcom, the Sarah Michelle Gellar vehicle Suburban Girl, and are considering theatrical for that, but this is just the first step on a much broader plan to get movies in theaters with the Image name attached. Why I’m not sure, since it seems like a huge sinkhole of money in this day and age, but I won’t question it if more good horror gets the big screen treatment.
Keep it here for the Undead or Alive disc details as the roll in! For now, click here for my interview with director Glasgow Phillips about the movie and head on over to Image’s official page for the film to check out its trailer!
