An Orphanage Remake Already?

New Line to remake Del Toro's El OrfanatoThe Orphanage is still circulating around the festival circuit with a limited US release in December, but it has struck some chords well enough to already be flagged to be remade for American audiences.

The Hollywood Reporter bagged a story today about New Line Cinema picking up the remake rights to the Juan Antonio Bayona directed and Guillermo del Toro produced flick. The film’s plot about a woman’s return to the orphanage that was once her home, only to find out a ghost from her past is now toying with her child sounds like the perfect grounds for a English-language remake. That feels a bit odd to say.

No director, cast or other assorted good & plenties have been named yet. A timeline for production hasn’t even been mentioned so this may be a ways off, which is good for the original (“Orphanage Poster, Trailer Found ” – March 09, 2007) so it won’t be overshadowed when it finally does land on our shores this Christmas.
