*UPDATE* The Blair Witch Project to Continue on the Small Screen

The Blair Witch Project, despite being one of the greatest and most successful found footage films of all time, has had an arduous journey after Mike, Heather, and Josh disappeared in the woods. Thankfully it sounds as if it is going to continue on!

Co-director Eduardo Sanchez was recently a guest on the Diminishing Returns podcast, where he discussed the future of Elly Kedward.

Ed Sanchez: For us, it’s a very natural thing to go and say, “Hey, let’s do a frickin’ Blair Witch show and you can say it’s from the original creators and we can bring in a whole bunch of interesting directors to direct episodes.

Host Sol Harris: Would you see that as an anthology thing with prequel episodes or would it all be found footage stuff?

Ed Sanchez: Well, you know, I can’t really discuss [it]. I think that the idea of a Blair Witch anthology has always been very – just a really interesting thing. You’re close. You’re in the ballpark… and I think it might be one of those things that… the more you think about it, you’re like, “That might be the perfect… a TV show. You know?” So, we’ll see what happens, but I think that’s the next big thing for Blair Witch. Probably TV.

Sanchez goes on to point out that any further Blair Witch projects are ultimately at the mercy of Lionsgate as he doesn’t own any of the rights anymore. Time will tell. Hopefully it wont be another 20 years before we venture back into the forests of Maryland.

You can listen to the full episode here.

UPDATE: Since the story broke, The Blair Witch Project co-director Daniel Myrick commented that he knows nothing about a possible Blair Witch television series, so it sounds to us that this news falls firmly into the file of Wishful Thinking.
