Rest in Peace: Basil Gogos

Basil GogosPeople throw around the word “legend” willy-nilly nowadays. There are only a few people that term is applicable to. Artist Basil Gogos is without question one of them. His artwork… it just speaks for itself, and with it he helped to launch the wild imaginations of an innumerable amount of monster kids.

Reports have been flooding in online that Gogos has passed away. We’re awaiting official confirmation, but it does, sadly, seem to be the case. As soon as we get word, we will update this story.

The work that Basil did for the cover art of Famous Monsters of Filmland in the 1960s and 1970s remains as eye-popping as it did when it was fresh on the newsstand. To say he was influential is nothing short of an understatement.

We here at Dread Central would like to take some time and thank this wonderful man who has given us so much to remember him by. Our deepest of condolences go out to Basil’s friends, family members, and constituents.

God bless you, sir. It’s been our honor.

Basil Gogos
