Shinji Mikami’s Vanquish Blasts Onto Steam
When it comes to horror gaming, it’s no exaggeration to say that Shinji Mikami is one of the most influential figures in the world. The creator of the Resident Evil franchise and the father of the survival horror genre has enjoyed a hugely successful career since leaving Capcom in 2007, with his 2010 PS3/Xbox 360 classic Vanquish now having been released on Steam for the first time, with improved graphics to boot.
Developed by Bayonetta’s PlatinumGames (a company which Mikami himself co-founded) and published by Sega, Vanquish has you take control of DARPA agent Sam Gideon as you attempt to reclaim a US space station from a right-wing Russian militia group. Equipped with a power suit and some big fucking guns, the game became famous for its frenetic, M-rated action and giant robot boss fights.
Despite earning great reviews and being the recipient of numerous Game of the Year awards, Vanquish was not a huge financial hit when it was originally released, so a sequel never materialized. At least now PC gamers can understand what all the fuss was about.
