Another Repo Story?
Now this is just scary.
You may recall that Darren Bousman, director of the Saw franchise since the second film, is working on a rock opera that he will follow up Saw IV with called Repo! The Genetic Opera. The story is set in the near future when human organs can be bought and sold easily, but if you don’t pay, someone will come and take the organs back from you.
Well, this morning Variety announced that the directorial debut of someone named Miguel Sapochnik, The Repossession Mambo, has pretty much the exact same storyline. What the hell are the chances of that happening? Save for the fact that Sapochnik’s won’t have any singing or dancing, whereas Bousman’s will, their concepts are scarily similar.
The Variety article even makes note of said similarity, thank the gods, pointing out that Mambo, which also has Forest Whitaker (pictured) and Jude Law on its side, will be rolling just a bit sooner than Repo!, meaning it might hit theaters first. At least there’s no way theatergoers will confuse the two, what with the singing and all that…
Hold on to your organs, tightly, when you visit our forums!
