Go Into the Making of Resident Evil VII: Biohazard

After the lackluster response to both Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 for their departure from the survival horror aspect that the franchise is known for, Capcom’s Resident Evil VII: Biohazard felt like a breath of fresh air. Not only did it bring back a true sense of horror but it was a genuine and delightful throwback to the original games, just with a first-person perspective and astonishingly good graphics. Playing it felt like the character was desperately trying to survive in the Baker house (and surrounding areas) and not just a situation of, “Gimme ammo and I’ll take care of the rest.” While being a badass that’s capable of vanquishing pretty much any foe at any time can be pretty great, there’s something far more engaging about needing to hoard ammunition, worrying about your health, and fretting about what might be around any corner. That’s the feeling that Resident Evil VII: Biohazard gave me and I relished every second of it.

Considering how the core titles in the series departed from the original feel only to snap back in an astonishing way, it’s interesting to wonder how and why the developers came to this conclusion. Luckily, the Resident Evil team has our back and has released the first part in a Making Of series for the seventh entry. You can watch the first part below, which features interviews, behind-the-scenes looks, and more.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Eh, “honor,” “horror,” close enough.
