Kevin Williamson Reveals a Few More Details about His New Supernatural Themed Show
Were you as confused as we were by the description of Kevin Williamson’s upcoming new series for The CW as “The X-Files meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer“? Apparently we’re not alone as Williamson himself recently said, “That’s exactly what the show is not!” Read on for a bit more from Williamson as to what it is.
In a conversation with EW.com’s TV Insiders, the scribe elaborates, “That was the wrong characterization. I was like, ‘What is Buffy meets The X-Files?’ They’re completely at odds tonally. It’s neither. It’s set on a college campus. There’s a little bit of some paranormal investigation involved, but it’s more about the characters. It’s more about what Julie [Plec, his “The Vampire Diaries” co-executive producer] and I like to do, which is create a world of people. A young girl goes to college, and it turns out there’s a lot more going on.”
As for what we can expect from the show, which, depending on how long it takes him and Plec to get it written, could debut sometime in 2011, Williamson promises, “It’s full of scary, horrible murder and surprises, and all the twists and turns that we love to do, but once again it is a story about epic love. That’s what we’re about here at ‘The Vampire Diaries’. And that’s sort of why you call it a ‘companion piece,’ because you will see those similarities in the show. You know, a bunch of fun characters that you can visit every week and watch them go through all these scary, twisty storylines, but it all leads to some greater story about epic and tragic love.”
Further, in a contradiction of the original story that broke the news about the new series, when asked if there is any crossover potential with “The Vampire Diaries” (after all, the two series will exist in the same world), Williamson states, “Absolutely.”
