Fantasia’s Davis Signs First-Look Deal
It’s really great to see, in the course of running a horror site and being so involved in “the scene”, someone truly deserving finally get the chance to show off their stuff in a big way.
Yesterday a press release was sent out announcing that Mitch Davis, program director for the Fantasia Film Festival, has signed a first-look deal with Blumhouse Pictures and its genre partner Room 101. Davis has a few films of his own under his belt already; Subconcious Cruetly (DVD review) as producer and the shorts “Divided Into Zero” and “God’s Little Girl” as director. This new deal will, essentially, allow Davis to use his extensive knowledge of the genre and its strengths to help bring talented writers and directors on board projects deserving of their talents.
“Mitch Davis is an incredible resource for us,” said Steven Schneider, a producer for Room 101, “a filmmaker, scholar, curator and journalist with unparalleled awareness of the international genre scene. We are very excited to be formalizing our relationship with him.”
Blumhouse has a first-look production deal with Paramount, which pretty much means whatever projects Davis will bring to the table will have a good chance at getting a major release. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this deal than Davis, who has been a tireless fan of our genre his entire life and has done more good through his work at Fantasia than any Hollywood name.
We’ll be sure to keep you informed about the progress of this deal; Fantasia is currently gearing up for it’s three-week run this July in Montreal, click here for more information!
