It’s Cholos vs. Vampires in the Battle of the Century!
When filmmakers Hector Barron and Scott Hahn set out to make a true monster film, an homage to the classic “guy in a monster suit,” they knew that the protagonists would have to be… well, different. When their script for Cholos vs. Vampires was completed, it was “mission accomplished”!
Their monsters would be vicious, blood-sucking vampires; and their heroes would be the cholos of East Los Angeles. What could be a more perfect storyline for the City of Angels?
But when the guys met with possible distributors and backers, the “suits” just couldn’t envision a film where Latinos were the good guys coming together to save their neighborhood. But Hector and Scott knew that their film would be a monster hit if they could only get the financing. Thanks to a dream where Zach Braff came to them and suggested they do a Kickstarter campaign, they knew it was divine intervention.
The Cholos vs. Vampires Kickstarter campaign has busted a move onto YouTube with a series of funny/creepy/animated videos that are quickly going viral. With the special guest starring appearance of Hollywood’s favorite former child actor/rehab survivor Corey Feldman and a parody assist from Braff himself, the two filmmakers are confident they will meet their financial goal so they can move forward and start production in 2017.
There is actually a worthwhile goal behind this film – making a film with a predominantly Latino cast that will utilize local actors. Says Barron, “I think we’ve put together a Kickstarter campaign that will be remembered. Who else has Corey Feldman acting like a cholo?”
Hahn adds, “You’ve got to go out there and fight for your dreams. Watch our videos, and you’ll see that.”
Award-winning orchestrator Conrad Pope (The Hobbit series, Moonrise Kingdom) will create the score for the film. Locations have been scouted, cholos have been recruited, and merchandise is already for sale. Fanboy alert: Marvel and DC comic artist Matt Haley has designed a cool t-shirt for the film, and the visual storyboard in the Kickstarter presentation was designed by an animation team from Dreamworks.
Barron and Hahn are committed 100 percent to seeing this film start production in the summer of 2017. With your help, they just might make it! But hurry… the Kickstarter campaign is over in just 9 more days!
