Disorder Named Best Screenplay in ScriptShadow250 Competition
One way to counteract the current stale remake/reboot/redux/repeat trend is to hold a competition for original feature screenplays, and we’re happy to let you know about the winners of the ScriptShadow250.
Taking first place was Disorder from Zed Warren, and we have more details about that along with the runners-up. Maybe there’s hope for the genre yet!
From the Press Release:
Carson Reeves’s ScriptShadow.net, collaborating with producer Lawrence Grey’s Grey Matter Productions, have announced the winners of the ScriptShadow250 feature film screenplay competition.
Zed Warren’s DISORDER was voted the best screenplay. The script is a psychological thriller centered around a recluse who suffers from random episodes where he commits violent acts without remembering them. One day he’s forced to babysit a neighbor’s 8-year-old daughter for an afternoon, suffers an episode, and awakes to find the girl has disappeared – a violent wreck in her wake. With himself as the only possible suspect, he must retrace his footsteps to find the girl.
Grey Matter will develop the project with contest winner, DISORDER writer Warren.
“The primary purpose of the ScriptShadow250 was to find new voices with a unique but commercial sensibility that might otherwise not have the ability to climb the steep barrier to entry within Hollywood,” said Grey Matter CEO Lawrence Grey. “Carson is a true tastemaker, and his website is a fantastic platform to identify emerging talent.”
Said Grey Matter COO Ben Everard, “ScriptShadow has an audience all over the world of young and hungry writers. Its unique reach provided an abundance of wonderful scripts.”
Receiving nearly 2,000 entrants, the competition was overseen by Carson Reeves, ScriptShadow’s founder and author of one of the most popular screenwriting books available, Scriptshadow Secrets: 500 Screenwriting Secrets Hidden Inside 50 Great Movies, in collaboration with Grey Matter.
Said Reeves, “The reason I partnered with Grey Matter for this contest is that they are incredibly talented, with a keen eye for material, and have a proven ability of working successfully with emerging talent. I’m excited that we can help these writers take their first steps into their new career.”
The other prize winning finalists are dark comedy BAIT by Samuel Boyer, thriller WHEELMAN by Jeffrey Rush, drama/thriller QUICKENING by Jacob Albert, and comedy MISS UNIVERSE by Colin O’Brien.
Founded by producer and former studio executive Lawrence Grey less than three years ago, Grey Matter Productions has quickly emerged as one of the industry’s most prolific independent production outfits. The company has a multi-year funding agreement with an investor group led by principals Cyrus and Darius Mojibi, Patrick Wade, Lawrence Kao. Their next release is Lights Out, written by Eric Heisserer and produced alongside James Wan.
