Originally set for release in late 2015, publisher Microsoft has now confirmed that the supernatural adventure game Oxenfree will be released in early 2016 for PC and Xbox One.
Inspired by classic movies such as Poltergeist, Super 8, and Stand by Me, Oxenfree places you in the shoes of a young girl who learns the importance of friendship the hard way as she is forced to defend her friends from sinister supernatural forces which she unwillingly sets free.
Developer Night School Studio consists of former Disney and Telltale employees, so expect some mighty fine storytelling on offer. Also, judging by its title, this is a game that will be suitable for people with bovinophobia. Yes, I really did have to look that word up.
A supernatural teen thriller about a group of friends who unwittingly open a ghostly rift.
Oxenfree is a single-player game that’s equal parts coming-of-age tale and supernatural thriller. You play as Alex, a bright, rebellious teenaged girl who brings her new stepbrother, Jonas, to an overnight party on a decommissioned military island. The festivities are framed by a dangerous sneak to a forbidden beach, celebrating with friends, and navigating prickly situations with enemies. But the night takes a horrifying turn when you unwittingly open a ghostly rift spawned from the island’s cryptic past. How you deal with these events, your peers, and the ominous creatures you’ve unleashed is up to you.
