A lot of filmmakers attempt to nail the look and feel of movies from the 70s and 80s, but few of them succeed in their endeavors. However, judging from the trailer for the upcoming thriller Francesca, brothers Luciano and Nicolás Onetti have successfully channeled the brooding atmosphere of giallos from the genre’s heyday. I thoroughly enjoyed their previous effort Sonno Profondo (aka Deep Sleep), so I’m absolutely thrilled that the guys are putting together another deranged slice of cinema.

Before investigating the trailer, have a look at this synopsis.

It’s been 15 years since the disappearance of little Francesca, daughter of the renowned storyteller, poet, and dramatist Vittorio Visconti; and the community is stalked by a psychopath bent on cleaning the city of “impure and damned souls.” Moretti and Succo, questioned by the ineffectiveness of the police force, are the detectives in charge of elucidating the mystery surrounding these “Dantesque” crimes. Francesca seems to have returned, but she is not be the same girl who everyone knew…

Francesca is set to make its world premiere at this year’s Sitges Film Festival. If you’re attending the festival this October, then make sure you don’t miss the screening. To stay up-to-date on everything related to the flick, swing by the official Francesca Facebook page.
