Rondo Hatton Award Nominees
The nominees for the 7th annual Rondo Hatton Awards have been announced, and while Dread Central isn’t among them this time around, there are quite a few familiar names on the list. The first that caught my eye is “The Blind Date of Coffin Joe” for Best Independent Production. As everyone who reads the site knows, we’re very high on Coffin Joe around these parts, so you can bet I’ve already made my pick!
The Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards recognize the best in monster research, creativity, and genre appreciation. The Awards are by fans, for fans. Every Rondo nominee is being recognized for a significant achievement in the genre — great filmmaking, strong writing, significant scholarship, or just plain fun.
Rob Zombie’s Halloween surprisingly won Best Movie last year, and this time the nominees are all over the place, ranging from such stellar genre fare as Let the Right One In, The Signal, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, and The Dark Knight to clunkers like Twilight, The Eye, The Happening, and X-Files: I Want to Believe. Also included as one of the nominees for Best DVD Extras is “One for the Fire”, the uber-fun documentary that was included in the 40th Anniversary Edition of Night of the Living Dead (review here).
Write-ins are allowed in all categories, so be heard! Take a few moments to visit the official Rondo Awards website, where you’ll find the ballot to cut & paste into an email to cast your votes. You have until midnight, March 21, 2009, after which winners will be announced.
