The new horror anime Chainsaw Man lives up to its name. A young man named Denji with a singular mindset is able to turn into, well, a chainsaw man. Specifically, blades appear on his head and out of his arms. With these blades, he fights devils with the hope of getting a kiss from his boss, the mysterious Makima. He also partners with Power, a fiend, and the curmudgeonly Aki. As he slices through devils, blood and gore fly across the screen with glorious and disgusting abandon.
Denji is a teenage boy living with a Chainsaw Devil named Pochita. Due to the debt his father left behind, he has been living a rock-bottom life while repaying his debt by harvesting devil corpses with Pochita. One day, Denji is betrayed and killed. As his consciousness fades, he makes a contract with Pochita and gets revived as “Chainsaw Man”—a man with a devil’s heart.
Dread Central spoke with Chainsaw Man voice actors Suzie Yeung (Makima) and Sarah Wiedenheft (Power) about the difficulties of these roles and giving into the chaos.
Chainsaw Man is streaming now on Crunchyroll. New episodes premiere every Tuesday at 9 AM PT.
