The “spiritual sequel” will return to the neighborhood where the legend began: The now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood.
The original film centered on a grad student researching superstitions in a housing project in Chicago. There she learns about the Candyman (Tony Todd), a hook-handed figure of urban legend that some believe to be responsible for a recent murder. After a mysterious man matching the Candyman’s description begins stalking her, she comes to fear the legend may be all too real.
The original film was written and directed by Bernard Rose based on the short story “The Forbidden” by Clive Barker. TriStar Pictures released it on October 16, 1992.
