Luckily a trusted source very close to the production dropped us a line with clarification. Dig: ”While there are actors from Land of the Dead and Diary of the Dead in this film, they are not necessarily playing the same characters,” they assure us. ”Many early concepts for this film included characters from Diary, but that changed by the time shooting came about. And there are certainly no characters from Land of the Dead making a return appearance. You could make a case that one particular character from this new film was seen in Diary briefly, but the script has now left that open to interpretation.”
So that should calm everyone who’s afraid Romero might be looking to make the new film a Dead survivors’ reunion. It will still be a stand-alone film in the Dead cannon with its own story and its own characters.
Our source also let us know that, despite what the IMDB may tell us, there is still no official title for the sixth Dead film; they’re still shooting under Blank of the Dead and will likely not settle on a title until after shooting wraps. When they do, though, you’ll definitely be hearing about it here!
