The trade reports the high school setting from the original will remain in place (of course), but the remake will delve deeper into the psychology of nightmares as well as Freddy Krueger himself. They also confirmed that the tone will be dark, so hopefully our new Freddy won’t be cracking wise every time he’s on screen.
The real question is: Who will that new Freddy Krueger be? If they’re going the Friday the 13th remake route, they won’t be bringing in anyone from the original series, which mean Englund is out. If they’re smart and realize that he’s really the only guy that can play Freddy, he’s in.
Only time will tell, but it’s becoming more and more real now. New Line hopes to have the new film done in time for the original’s 25th anniversary, which is next year.
