I will be the first to admit I never bothered to catch this one in theaters, but after reading the overwhelming negative criticism of it, I’m glad I saved my cash. The first of many movies about the infamous Bell Witch, our story follows the Bell family who terrorized by a malevolent spirit who apparently eventually causes the death of someone, though from what I’ve heard there’s really no ghost-related death to be had. See if you can follow along with me here; a security guard working the late night shift at a hospital begins having all sorts of bizarre hallucinations. He finds a scientist who has killed himself and tries to call for help, but the phones are all out. Some strange creatures attack him and he passes out, only to wake up in a strange room occupied only by a creepy child. The child fades away, he gets out of the room, but then he gets a call that his child has been dropped off at the hospital and he’s desperate to protect him. Sounds like an indie mind fuck movie if I’ve ever heard one! Buy it here!

What could be the titular curse? Perhaps a raging case of herpes? A insatiable desire for popcorn laced with rice pilaf? Claire Danes? No, folks it’s much worse than all that; A whole bunch of people are cursed to die on Halloween when they awaken the one, the only … Great Queen Pumpkin! Could she be the wife of the Great Pumpkin? Can’t say for sure, but I do know this is one of the cheapest looking covers I’ve ever seen and I have a feeling the flick isn’t much better. Don’t Be Scared (2006)

This part of the list is really the bane of my existence. You find out a movie is coming out, you find out it stars a pretty big name in rap (namely Master P), and that’s about all you find out. The director? More people in the cast? Detailed plot? All for the birds, apparently. What I do know is that it’s about serial killer stalking victims on a college campus, and that it’s the first horror film from H. Hood Cinema, whatever that is. Oh, and apparently every DVD will come packaged with en exclusive Master P-produced soundtrack. Buy it here!

Finally, the wait is over! Charles Band’s first movie in years that doesn’t feature small dolls or midgets as the main cast; instead the star of Evil Bong is a vintage bong called Ebee, which possesses the power to make it’s users very, very high indeed. When a college nerd becomes hypnotized by the bong, he and his stoner roommates take a truly wild ride through Bong World, which I’m sure will have to be seen to be believed. Buy it here!

Fangoria write Mike Gingold is responsible for this script, so it might actually be better than most of The Asylum’s output. The story follows a man who escapes from an insane on Halloween night to return to his hometown to find out who murdered his mother. In order for this truth to be revealed, he has to kill everyone in site, including the residents of his former childhood home and their party guests. Boy, that sure does sound familiar, doesn’t it? After being incarcerated for the better part of his life in a state mental hospital, Taylor Melnick is let loose. Free from the literal prison that he made his home, he is now prisoner of the torturous visions that haunt him, forcing him to return to his hometown to track down the roots of his madness. He finds the answers he seeks there, as well as many new questions and a whole slew of problem when death rears it’s ugly head. Wow, this one sounds really familiar, too, doesn’t it? Buy it here!

This was easily one of my favorites of the year. The story of three kids in a normal suburban neighborhood who are forced to deal with an evil house that begins eating people when it’s owner allegedly dies on the front lawn, it’s just dark enough to appeal to horror fans while not so much that kids will be traumatized watching it. The fantastic motion-capture animation sure doesn’t hurt either, I just wish we could see it in 3-D (like I did in theaters) on DVD; it only makes it that much cooler. Maybe it was the success of Masters of Horror, or the fact that this anthology showed on TNT instead of pay cable, but for some reason I could just never get excited for this series. Though it is cool to see so many kick ass Stephen King stories get adapted, I think the timing here was just off. Despite the instance of the filmmakers that nothing was really cut for the theatrical version of Saw II, I guess someone found something new that could be inserted into the film to make it “uncut”. The timing is less than coincidental, in fact some would call it planned, as Saw III hits theaters on October 27th. Lionsgate really knows how to make us horror fans spend as much money as possible, but damnit we love ‘em for it, as long as they keep making good horror! Buy it here!

When are kids every going to learn; don’t kill Indians, accidental or otherwise. 30 years ago a group of kids are the cause of the death of a medicine man, who cursed their unborn children. In the present day a group of college kids (:eyeroll:) travel to the location of the incident to uncover the truth, and maybe get a bit of curse on themselves as well. Buy it here!

The best horror film of last year that no one bothered to see. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. No matter, it’s out on DVD now and you can make up for it by buying two copies instead of just one. No? Fine, at least give it a chance cause it’s a lot of fun, has a lot of cool monsters and blood, and stars two of the coolest guys ever; Michael Rooker and Nathan Fillion!
