This time our focus is not on a new film at all, but rather the rarely-seen directoral debut of Curtis (The Dead Don’t Die, Devil Dog: The Hound of Hell) Harrington, 1961’s Night Tide. The film stars a very young Dennis Hopper as a sailor who falls for the wrong girl in more ways than one:
On leave in a shore side town, Johnny becomes interested in a young dark haired woman. They meet and he learns that she plays a mermaid in the local carnival. After strange occurrences, Johnny begins to believe that she may actually be a real mermaid that habitually kills during the cycle of the full moon.
Tribeca will be the first time Night Tide has been show on 35mm in many years, and it sounds like one fans of classic, subtle horror will not want to miss. Check out the Tribeca screening times below, followed by stills and the film’s somewhat deceiving trailer.
