According to THR, Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, The Heat) has emerged as the frontrunner, and Feig has shown interest in taking on the project. Sources caution that no formal negotiations have taken place, and a lot must be worked out before the casual discussions turn serious and Feig accepts the job. But he is the studio’s first choice. Sony declined to comment.

Etan Cohen penned the Ghostbusters III script, which is cut from the same cloth as the original films. The original Ghostbusters will have a very small role in the sequel. Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson, who played Ray Stantz and Winston Zeddemore, respectively, are expected to return, though Bill Murray’s involvement is questionable.
