First up, Halloween and The Devil’s Rejects composer Tyler Bates has been nabbed by 20th Century Fox to put the music together for their upcoming redux of The Day the Earth Stood Still, which stars Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connolly and Jon Hamm. Exorcism of Emily Rose helmer Scott Derrickson is behind the camera, and I think Bates’ inclusion is very telling when trying to decipher just what kind of movie this remake will be. I expect hip, cutting edge, and probably pretty annoying.
Getting away from remakes and into book adaptations, Graeme Revell (Child’s Play 2, Planet Terror, Sin City) will be making the music for Carter Smith’s adaptation of Scott Smith’s novel The Ruins (pictured left). Revell’s got genre cred to spare (missteps like The Fog remake can be forgiven), so it sure as hell can’t hurt the film. The Ruins is due out on April 8th.
Finally, UFS got word that Danish composer Søren Hyldgaard (Angel of the Night) was the man behind the score for Red, the Jack Ketchum adaptation helmed by Lucky McKee and Trygve Allister Diesen, who’s also Danish. Red premieres at Sundance on Sunday, January 20th.
