Per Screen Daily, later this year Smith plans on shooting Yoga-Hosers, which is centered on characters who pop up for a brief appearance in Tusk and was also inspired by a discussion on his podcast.
“There are two characters in a convenience store in Tusk that you see for five minutes, very much Ronsencrantz and Guildenstern,” said Smith. “I’ve built a whole movie around them, and I have [also] brought one of the other characters from Tusk back.â€
Tusk, written and directed by Smith and born out of one of his immensely popular SModcasts, stars Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Genesis Rodriguez and Michael Parks. In the horror film Long plays a journalist who finds the story of a lifetime in Mr. Howe (Parks), a worldwide adventurer with amazing tales and a curious penchant for walruses.
A24 Films scooped up domestic rights and will release Tusk in theaters this fall. Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions snatched up Smith’s monster flick for the U.K., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Latin America, Italy, Benelux, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, South Africa, Portugal, Spain and Greece.
