First off, THR Reports that eOne acquired Canadian rights to Somnia, the latest from Oculus director Mike Flanagan. They’re eyeing an early 2015 theatrical release for the film, about an orphaned child whose dreams and nightmares manifest physically as he sleeps.
Jacob Tremblay plays the child, with Kate Bosworth and Thomas Jane playing his parents.
The site also reports that Blumhouse International sold Canadian rights to eOne for Viral, which stars Sophia Black De’lia and Analeigh Tipton and will be directed by the Catfish team of Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman.
In the film, a teenage girl begins a video documentary about her life for a school project just as a terrifying virus sweeps through her small town. Quarantined with her family, she thinks they are out of harm’s way, but she soon learns that the virus has invaded their house. Her video documents the family’s frantic struggle to find a cure before they are completely taken over by the outbreak.
Here in the states, Relativity has the rights to Somnia, while The Weinstein Co./Dimension Films will be releasing Viral.
