As reported by Deadline, “Copper” alum Jim Watson has joined the cast and will recur as the younger version of Abraham (the recently recast David Bradley) on the drama. After being driven by the Nazis from his home village, young Abraham is caught and sent to a concentration camp, only to learn there is a greater evil in the world that he resolves to fight.
Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan (co-authors of the novel on which the show is based) co-wrote the pilot, which del Toro also directed. Carlton Cuse serves as showrunner and writer. Gary Ungar executive produces the FX Productions series.
The story centers on Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers wage war for the fate of humanity itself.
Regina King will play Ruby Wain, the smart and accomplished manager of philandering rock star Gabriel Bolivar (Jack Kesy), while Melanie Merkosky will play Jim Kent’s (Sean Astin) wife Sylvia, who is suffering from cancer.
“The Strain,” aiming for a July 2014 debut for its 13-episode first season, also stars Mia Maestro, Kevin Durand, Natalie Brown, Jonathan Hyde, Richard Sammel, Robert Maillet, Ben Hyland, and Miguel Gomez.
