In what may be the most exciting news all month, creator and game designer Jane Jensen has announced that a 20th Anniversary remake is in the works and launched an official website with a few sneak peek images of the HD version.
The remastered Gabriel Knight is currently planned for a 2014 multi-platform release on PC, Mac, iPad and Android.
As thrilled as we are about this news, there’s one catch: Jensen was unable to get rights to the original audio tracks, which means the new edition will have completely new voice recordings. Considering the original had the best voice cast and narrator in gaming history, it’s a bit sad that we won’t be listening to Virginia Capers’ evocative voodoo voice in the redux. No word on whether the great Tim Curry is returning, but odds are we won’t hear supporting actors Mark Hamill and Leah Rimini reprising their roles this time.
Regardless, this is incredibly exciting news for adventure gamers – and one step closer to making Gabriel Knight 4 a reality!
