The director of The Wicker Man, Robin Hardy, has approved the “Final Cut” as the finest and most complete version of the film. The Wicker Man: The Final Cut will be released in cinemas on September 27 and on DVD and Blu-ray October 14 in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the flick.
This 40th anniversary edition is every Wicker Man fan’s perfect ending to a much mythicized search for the most complete version of the film. Having left no stone unturned for the opportunity of uncovering any of the original materials, the ghosts have now been laid to rest, as we can finally and happily confirm that this is the “Final Cut.”
Starring Edward Woodward, Christopher Lee, and Britt Ekland, The Wicker Man is about a devout Christian policeman (Woodward) who is summoned to a remote Scottish island to investigate the disappearance of a child. While there he uncovers a bizarre pagan cult, led by Lord Summerisle (Lee). As preparations for a sinister ritual celebration reach fever pitch, the policeman begins to realise what role the islanders intend him to play.
