Zombies — Most often referring to the “living dead”, rising from their graves in search of warm, succulent flesh to fill their “undead tummies” (the technical term, for the necrobiologists out there).
Corn — A vegetable most associated with cobs, nursery rhymes, and youth team-building, beloved by hard-working farmers and malignant entities the world over.
Two entirely divorced concepts that have nothing to do with each other, and furthermore, never will, right?
I’m here to tell you that the days of corn/zombie separation are over. Now, corn and zombies can stalk together as one, unless said zombie is missing its legs. Then the corn is the only thing stalking. Whatever the case, their unification is no longer a dream, but a cold, dead reality. All thanks to an upcoming film called—Attack of the Corn Zombies!
“It’s 1969 and infected corn leads to an outbreak of the walking dead in a small Midwest town. With no way to escape and cut off from the outside world, a group of friends and family must fight their way through hordes of the dead to survive.”
1969, huh? Wonder why they chose that year.
Anyway, the great thing about zombies is that they’re completely modular as far as conception goes, limited only by one’s imagination. Want them to be the result of a toxic gas leak? No problem! Need them to be a social commentary on society? You got it! Raised by evil sorcerers to do their depraved bidding? Say less! Compelled to screw everyone to death inside a drive-in theater owned by beloved character actor, Richard Riehle? Oddly specific, but okay, sure. Keeping this in mind, zombifying corn doesn’t sound too out there. Silly, by all means, but not outlandish, at least by the standards of zombie fare. It’s still plenty deranged for all the non-undead gourmands out there.
The film is being directed by returning face, S.J. Hermann, though this one isn’t an adaptation of one of his written works.
The film stars Angel Bradford, Magdalena Conway, Lynn Lowry, Morrigan Thompson, Beth Metcalf, Delilah Hefner, Jake Yanko, Jamie Apple, Ann Myrna, and many others. Metcalf and Apple will also provide the SFX to bring these corny ghouls to life.
Attack of the Corn Zombies is currently holding an Indiegogo campaign, which you can support right here. It promises “zombies, blood, gore, and a good story!”
What better side dish to pair with a flesh feast than corn?
