Director Richard John Taylor gave Dread Central an exclusive look at actors Rula Lenska and Evie Hughes in the first trailer for his upcoming supernatural horror film Winter Witch: The Curse Of Frau Perchta. In addition to the trailer, Taylor also provided us with a batch of stills from the film. He also offered the following exclusive statement:
‘After a very intense shoot on Trafficked, shooting Winter Witch with such a wonderful group of actors was a breath of fresh air and the most fun I’ve had since my first feature ten years ago. We were blessed with camaraderie you don’t often find these days and the gift of time that we haven’t had on other recent productions, time that is essential when crafting tension in a horror film.’
Winter Witch: The Curse Of Frau Perchta stars Rose Hakki as Ingrid, a journalist who returns to her isolated ancestral village to investigate a string of murders in the surrounding woodlands. There, she uncovers a sinister supernatural force that endangers everyone living in the village. The film was directly based upon the cautionary fable of the witch known as Frau Perchta from German folklore. She’s said to slice open the stomachs of misbehaving children and replace their insides with straw and pebbles. With such a creepy legend serving as the source material, we can probably expect Winter Witch: The Curse Of Frau Perchta to be one of Taylor’s creepiest films to date.
Filming took place earlier this year in London and Devon. The supporting cast includes Paul Hughes, Paul Dewdney, Candice L Owens, Sydney Mitchell, and Jimmy ‘The Bee’ Bennett.
Evie Hughes also stars in Taylor’s upcoming revenge thriller, Trafficked and its recently greenlit sequel. She’ll also starin the director’s adaptation of The Picture Of Dorian Gray, filming in Italy this September. Until then, fans of Taylor’s work can expect Winter Witch: The Curse Of Frau Perchta to be released at the end of 2022. High Flier Films is handling worldwide distribution.
