Two slices of vintage sleaze are now getting remastered releases from Severin Films. The boutique label has announced it will release Delirium and a two-disc special edition of Don’t Go in the House on Blu-ray January 25, 2022.
Don’t Go in the House first stoked a firestorm of controversy and condemnation in the U.S. and the U.K. over 40 years ago. Director/co-writer Joseph Ellison’s film has drawn comparisons to Maniac, and Severin Films’ new release of the grisly ’80s gem will present it uncut and fully remastered. The two-disc package will feature a 2K scan from the original negative—plus the alternate TV version and extended cut, combining scenes from both—with over two hours of exclusive special features.
In the film, a shy incinerator worker, scarred by memories of his mother’s abuse, begins luring women to his childhood home for incendiary torment. Dan Grimaldi of The Sopranos plays the creep in question; Sopranos co-star Michael Imperioli revealed earlier this year that Don’t Go in the House was his first introduction to Grimaldi’s work, when he watched it in his teens.
Director Peter Maris’ feature debut, Delirium, takes portions of an unfinished urban conspiracy thriller and adds a new psycho-killer procedural to create one of the most peculiar proto-slashers of the ‘70s.
Delirium follows a series of savage murders that shake St. Louis to its core. The ensuing police investigation leads to a deranged Vietnam vet, an underground faction of white-collar vigilantes, gratuitous nudity, graphic violence, and a prodigious display of low-budget, regional filmmaking.
The film, also known as Psycho Puppet, was designated as one of the very first Section 2 Video Nasties, and for years, could only be found in the wild on VHS. Severin Films’ release now presents it on disc for the first time ever, restored from the only known 35mm print in existence.
