Wes Craven re-invented and revitalized the slasher-horror genre with the original horror classic. It managed to be funny, clever, and scary. It followed a fright-masked knife maniac stalks high-school students in middle-class suburbia. Craven was happy to provide both tension and self-parody as the body count mounts.
Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have confirmed the new movie is a direct sequel to Craven’s classic, not a reboot. Scream hits January 14, 2022.
