Variety reports that Almodovar is planning to direct a sci-fi movie inspired by his love of 1950s pics like Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
“I am still young enough to make a science fiction movie. I have ideas for this genre,” the Spanish helmer said Sunday. “The way I would like to do it is present something impossible in a real, domestic way. One of the scripts on my desk is of that genre so I hope to make that.”
He admitted he didn’t know how soon that would be. “I live with my stories for many years. I write more like a novelist than a screenwriter,” he said.
Almodovar was speaking at BAFTA in London, where he delivered the annual David Lean Lecture, in which leading filmmakers discuss the influences on their career.
