It was confirmed back in July that Marvel had acquired the rights to publish Alien and Predator comics as a result of Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, and the publisher has now released a series of incredible variant covers depicting Xenomorphs invading the Marvel Universe. Drawn by an assortment of talented artists including Jamie McKelvie, Declan Shalvey, Peach Momoko, and Leinil Francis Yu, these variant covers for Marvel’s current publications show some of the publisher’s most famous superheroes, including Captain America, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Thor, Iron Man, and the Hulk, facing off against Xenomorphs, and fans will want to spend hours looking at them.
We’ve included all nineteen of the variant covers in the gallery below, and we think they look spectacular. Most of all, we are particularly fond of the cover depicting Venom literally facing off against a Xenomorph, because the two almost look like they could be distant relatives. And we love the little touches as well, such as how the Xenomorph’s acidic blood burns through Wolverine’s glove but not through his indestructible Adamantium claws.
But keep in mind that while these covers released by Marvel give us an idea of how a Xenomorph invasion of the Marvel Universe would look, there are currently no plans for an actual crossover. Instead, Marvel’s new Alien comics will take place within a separate continuity, with the publisher also set to reprint classic Alien comics which were originally published by Dark Horse.
However, now that Marvel owns the publishing rights to the Alien franchise, the possibilities are endless, so we can’t wait to hear what the House of Ideas has in store. The first Alien comic set to be released by Marvel will be a Dark Horse reprint titled Aliens Omnibus Volume 1, which is set to arrive in stores next April, and fans won’t want to miss it.
