On Saturday, August 22nd, the H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival® is hosting a one-night streaming event to celebrate H. P. Lovecraft’s 130th birthday, featuring short films both new and classic from the 25-year history of the H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival®! Tickets to this online screening are available on the festival website.

This October is also the 25th Anniversary of the H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland, OR, and this year the festival will be a 3-day streaming event beamed directly into your living room! This is normally a huge festival that takes place on 3 screens and in secondary venues with multiple art, music, film, and live events, and for the first time ever, anyone in the US can easily enjoy the Portland show.

The 130 Years of Lovecraft event begins at 4 pm PDT on August 22nd and can be streamed anywhere in the US. The 25th Annual H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival will stream October 2-4, and will feature new independent films in the cosmic horror and Weird tale tradition, plus live and interactive events that will make this much more than just watching movies at home, so mark the calendar!

Festival directors Brian and Gwen Callahan were really looking forward to celebrating this milestone with their festival family in person, but in light of the pandemic, they firmly believe moving to a streaming format is the safest and best course of action. “The easiest thing would have been to cancel it and have our big 25th Anniversary bash next year, but we didn’t think that was fair to our audience, or to the filmmakers who rely on us to showcase their particular kind of Weird cinema.” said Brian Callahan. “Things keep getting weirder and we’re all isolated here in the US, so we think the right thing to do is to bring the right kind of Weird directly into your home!”

Gwen and Brian are also the directors of Portland Horror Film Festival, and took that event online in June, making it the first all-horror film festival in the US to stream its entire program. The H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival was founded in 1995 by Andrew Migliore to promote the work of Lovecraft-inspired independent filmmakers from around the world. Since taking the reins in 2011, current directors Gwen and Brian Callahan have grown the festival to a three-day extravaganza of film, art, author readings, scholarly presentations, live performances, tabletop gaming demos, and are working hard to bring a taste of all these experiences to the streaming festival.
