If you’re running out of movies to watch during the quarantine period, you’re in luck, as the brutal animated film Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge has now been released by Warner Bros. on various VOD platforms.
Based on the immensely popular gaming franchise, Scorpion’s Revenge adapts the plot of the first Mortal Kombat game, making it ideal viewing for both newcomers and hardcore fans. The story focuses on the warrior Hanzo Hasashi, who is resurrected as the being known as Scorpion so he can avenge the death of his family, who were murdered by Sub-Zero. While this is going on, the Thunder God Raiden organises a tournament between his horde of minions and the finest warriors Earthrealm has to offer, with the fate of the world hanging in the balance.
As well as those already mentioned, other popular Mortal Kombat characters who appear include Kitana, Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, Jax, Goro, Quan Chi, and charismatic movie star Johnny Cage. The film even features a cameo from Daffy Duck, because Warner Bros. clearly feels the need to include their mascots in everything.
Scorpion’s Revenge was produced by series creator Ed Boon and directed by Ethan Spaulding, who also directed this year’s Scooby-Doo! Return to Zombie Island, as well as Son of Batman, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, and episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender. The voice cast includes Patrick Seitz as Scorpion, Joel McHale as Johnny Cage, Jennifer Carpenter as Sonya Blade, and Jordan Rodrigues as Liu Kang.
Mortal Kombat is known for its extreme violence, and Scorpion’s Revenge is no exception. The R-rated animated film is also one of a small number of cartoons to receive an 18 certificate in the UK, and this is hardly surprising. If you love gore (and you probably do, otherwise you wouldn’t be on this site), then this is one movie you need to watch immediately.
