Chilean filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky is best-know for an incredible accomplishment and an equally astonishing defeat. He became an icon of international horror following the release of Santa Sangre in 1989; the film deftly mixes drama, fantasy, and genre tropes into a singular experience that’s still studied and celebrated to this date. Check out the trailer and synopsis for Santa Sangre below.

Synopsis:
In Mexico, the traumatized son (Axel Jodorowsky) of a knife-thrower (Guy Stockwell) and a trapeze artist bonds grotesquely with his now-armless mother (Blanca Guerra).

Jodorowsky is equally known for his failed attempt at adapting Frank Herbet’s seminal sci-fi novel Dune. The experience was so complex, it spawned its own documentary. Check out the trailer and synopsis for Jodorowsky’s Dune below.

Synopsis:
Filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky discusses how he would have adapted Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi novel “Dune” for the big screen.

Today, Alejandro Jodorowsky turns 91-years-old. All of us here at Dread Central wish him a very happy birthday!
