Trammell is best known for his role of Sam Merlotte in HBO’s True Blood. For seven seasons, Trammell played a shapeshifter who also owned the bar where show lead, Suki, worked. Sam used his shifting abilities to shift into a fly to escape prison after he is falsely accused of murder; he becomes a white bull to kill a maenad who is trying to sacrifice him to her god; and he rescues his biological brother from a dog fighting ring – where his brother is forced to shift and fight.

In addition to True Blood, Trammell appeared in Alien vs. Predator: Requiem, the husband of a soldier; and The Order, a Netflix series in which Trammell plays a professor at a university which also has a secret magical order.
