EDITOR’S NOTE: The featured image originally accompanying this article mistakenly contained an image of Joe Gallow cosplaying as Jason as shot by Emily Lane.

I think we all know well and good by this point, Freddy vs. Jason went through quite a few directors before settling on Bride of Chucky and The Bride with White Hair helmer Ronny Yu.

And today we’ve learned from ScreenRant that none other than Rob Zombie almost directed the clash of the slasher titans .. but it seems Zombie chose not to direct the flick because he was in pre-production on House of 1000 Corpses. Weak.

Freddy vs Jason centered on Freddy Krueger losing much of his power since Springwood has become less afraid of him. So he then enlists the help of fellow violent murderer Jason Voorhees and orchestrates a new killing spree. However, when the hockey-mask-wearing psychopath won’t stop chopping up Freddy’s intended victims, the two ghouls start to battle each other.

The film scored 41% on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus which reads: Fans of the two horror franchises will enjoy this showdown. But for everyone else, it’s the same old slice and dice.

It was (eventually) directed by Ronny Yu from a screenplay written by Damian Shannon & Mark Swift based on characters created by Wes Craven & Victor Miller. Sean S. Cunningham produced and it starred Monica Keena, Kelly Rowland, Jason Ritter, and Lochlyn Munro, with Ken Kirzinger as Jason and Robert Englund as Freddy. New Line Cinema released it back on August 15, 2003.
