That’s the only explanation I can come up with for why there are two organ repossession movies in the works, both very different from one another. The most prominent, of course, is Darren Lynn Bousman’s Repo! The Genetic Opera, but Universal has plans for their own, non-musical thriller called Repossession Mambo.
Today The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Alice Braga (pictured, City of God, I Am Legend) has been added to Mambo’s cast as the female lead, joining Forest Whittaker and Jude Law. Law will play a repo man made up of artificial organs who has to go on the run when he’s unable to afford the payments on his new heart and they come to take it away.
Personally, in terms of pure fucked-upness (yes, that is a word), my money is on Repo! to be the more lasting of the two, but I can’t deny that Mambo’s got some potential, as well. Miguel Sapochnik will make his feature film debut on Repossession Mambo, which starts rolling on October 15th (my wedding anniversary, in case you were all wondering) in Toronto!
