NY Magazine’s Vulture is reporting that Sony super-producer Neal Moritz (also the producer of next year’s Mars-less Colin Farrell remake of Total Recall) has hired screenwriters Edward Miller and Zack Stentz (Thor, X-Men: First Class) to get cracking on a remake of Paul Verhoeven’s 1997 campy, ultra violent, extremely loose film adaptation of Robert Heinlein’s science fiction classic novel Starship Troopers.
No word if the approach to the material will be over-the-top along the lines of the 1997 feature or more serious-minded like that of the original source material. Oh, who are we kidding? We all know this reboot will probably have even less in common with Heinlein’s novel than Starship Troopers or any of its direct-to-video sequels and animated follow-ups.
Personally, my favorite Starship Troopers movie remains Aliens. Sorry, Casper Van Dien.
So which Verhoeven favorite gets remade next? We’re now pretty much down to Hollow Man and Basic Instinct. My money’s on a remake of Showgirls starring Miley Cyrus in 2015.
