Jason Reitman’s upcoming Ghostbusters project now has an official release date. Variety just dropped the news that the official follow-up to 1984’s original Ghostbusters will hit theaters in 2020, right in the thick of Blockbuster Season: July 10th! That’s a year and a half from now, but you’ll be amazed at how fast time flies, and producing a film of this caliber in that timeframe won’t be an easy task.
Also, per Variety:
Reitman’s father, Ivan, directed the original Ghostbusters, starring Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis, and Sigourney Weaver. Murray’s character Peter Venkman headed a team of parapsychologists who start a ghost-catching business in New York City. The 1984 film grossed $242 million in the United States and over $295 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing comedy film of its time.
As for whether or not any of the original Ghostbusters will actually be returning for the film, that remains to be confirmed.
