Can we just take this project down with a well placed head shot already? Please? Maybe some things are just not meant to be. The most ill-fated attempt of an adaptation of the year has just suffered yet another blow.

According to Deadline (who are confirming a rumor that Twitch first reported on that was later denied by Lionsgate), Craig Gillespie is exiting Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, becoming the latest filmmaker to walk away from the project.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies will be directed by someone eventually (or not) from a script by Marti Noxon based on the novel by Seth Grahame-Smith. It centers on Elizabeth Bennet’s quest for love and independence amid the outbreak of a virus that turns the dead into zombies. The story’s set in an alternate version of 19th Century England that features deadly ancestors roaming the countryside.
