Writer-director Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker flick is moving right along. The standalone origin film just scored not only a release date but a leading lady, as well.
The Wrap reports that Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2) will play “a single mother who catches the attention of the Joker prior to his transformation into the nihilistic Gotham City villain.”

This Joker is produced by Emma Tillinger Koskoff and Richard Baratta is an executive producer. Production set to begin in New York in September and the film will be released on October 4, 2019.
