I love puppets, I’m not going to lie. And that’s why I’m looking forward to director Brian Henson’s R-rated puppet murder mystery The Happytime Murders starring Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Joel McHale, and Elizabeth Banks.

And if you’re not sold on the basic premise following two clashing detectives, one human (McCarthy) and one puppet, forced to work together again to solve the brutal murders of the former cast of a beloved classic puppet television show, then maybe today’s red band trailer will help you out.

The Happytime Murders is directed by Brian Henson from a screenplay by Todd Berger and stars Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Joel McHale, and Elizabeth Banks. Henson, McCarthy, Jeff Hayes, and Ben Falcone produce. The film hits theaters August 17th.

Synopsis:

No Sesame. All Street. THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS is a filthy comedy set in the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles where puppets and humans coexist. Two clashing detectives with a shared secret, one human and one puppet, are forced to work together again to solve the brutal murders of the former cast of a beloved classic puppet television show.
